Subject: Dark Roads Ahead
Hello old collegue. I hope that this letter reaches you well. I myself am afraid that times here in Middle Earth have fallen much darker than I would have hoped. Something is amiss in the distance, and my intuition tells me that it has everything to do with one of my old friend Bilbo Baggins's souvineers from his travels. I can only hope that I can reach him, help him understand the utter devistation that will follow if he allows himself to become infatuated with the power that lurks inside the ring. I believe there may still be time. Hobbits are good of heart and not made for adventuring, and if I am not mistaken, if I can convince him to leave behind the ring on his one hundred and eleventieth birthday before he travels to Rivendell to seek council amongst the elves, there is still a chance that we can rid the world of this evil before it is too late. Have you any advice, my good friend? You must accept my apologies for not returning coorospondince more frequently, and I hope to hear word from you soon. Farewell and namarie, Albus.

Gandalf you old coot! I was just thinking of you while I dined on green tea and treckle tart! My eyes were wandering and fell on a photograph of my brother (who you look nothing and everything like) and realised that it has been ages since I last saw your scribbly scrawl. Not that I can see it now, of course, but just knowing it's you typing makes me feel almost as happy as I am when receiving a new pair of socks!
It's not all roses and amorentia here at Hogwarts either, to be honest. I'm starting to think that the evil we tried to vanquish back in the first war has come back, even though no one else seems to want to believe it. I will keep you posted, of course! Right now I need to make sure that little Harry Potter keeps his nose clean through his first year here at Hogwarts, and to take the biscuits I have baking out of the oven. W.B.S!
